Last minute gift idea: Make a USB flash drive mixtape!

13 February 2016 in Fun | Personalised | USB Flash Drives | USB Memory Sticks | DIY

We all have the best intentions to get our friends, family and loved ones fantastic gifts for birthdays and Christmas, but sometimes even the best laid plans go awry. Thankfully, in this modern age there are so many ways you can make a great last minute gift that are still thoughtful and sweet but without a hefty price tag or spending hours hunched over a craft project (though that can be fun too!).

We all know how versatile USB flash drives are, so use yours to its full potential and create your loved one a USB mixtape. It's fun and easy to do and makes a great last minute gift. Before we give you our tips on how to make a flash drive mixtape, we must state that we are, of course, not lawyers and we cannot guarantee the legality of this form of music sharing. As far as we are aware, sharing music for personal, non commercial use is permitted by most music retailers, but please check first if you're not sure!

With that out of the way, let's go ahead and make a mixtape.

1. Get an awesome USB drive. Head over to our website now and pick out a novelty, sparkly, or classic drive for your beau, friend, or family member. We have a great selection and with our engraving service and great range of premium packaging, you can make this gift as personal as you want it to be.  We make no apologies for that shameless plug.

2. Choose the right capacity. We supply flash drives from 512MB up to a whopping 32GB, so whether you want space for just a couple of songs or for several albums, we've got you covered.

3. Choose your songs! For iTunes users, you can right click the song and click "show in finder" or "show in explorer" and copy the file to the USB drive. Or you can just locate the music folder in your documents, and copy and paste your songs directly from there - whichever is easiest for you.

4. Add other stuff, perhaps a mini speaker to make a full musical package gift.

5. Add the finishing touches. Maybe just add a little tag to the flash drive (particularly easy if they come with a keyring built in or a loop for one (like many of ours do), put it in a gift box, or a little gift bag. If you get your drive from us, we can take care of those packaging options for you.

And you're done! If you've made a flash drive mixtape or if you have any great ideas for a playlist, let us know in the comments.

Jellyfunk Winter Warm-Up

21 October 2014 in Advertising | Fun | Promotions | stories

We are proud to be sponsoring a gig taking place in our hometown of Eastbourne this weekend featuring Canadian DJ Duo Skiitour.

Here at Memory Mates we're proud to support many musicians; you might remember our last blog post about a DJ! Well, this time around we're going even further and are sponsoring a big upcoming music night!

Canadian DJ duo Skiitour are flying in exclusively to perform their only UK date in Memory Mates' hometown Eastbourne, at a retro Ski Wear party by local DJ cartel Jelly Funk. This will be a truly unique experience to witness, and as big fans we just had to offer our support to make this happen. We asked Jelly Funk founder Toby Bryant for a few words:

"There's a great buzz going around Eastbourne about this gig. It really is something I am proud to be hosting which is bringing a lot of people into our town. This has only been possible to do with the help from Memorymates.co.uk who have fully supported this event."

Tickets are selling fast, and no wonder - venue Maxims boasts three floors of quality music for all the lucky guests! Expect a taste of winter magic (with a little help from a snow machine) to get you all pumped up. Better check it out quick before there's no chance!

Advance tickets are £5 / £10 on the door, available from Maxims Bar, 53 South St, Eastbourne. More details can be found on the Event Page on Facebook

Selfie craze

15 April 2014 in Fun

The craze of the selfie has hit an all time high. Celebrities are posting selfies worth $1 billion, a song called "#Selfie" has made its way into the top 20, and even the Pope is getting involved! What started out as something reserved largely for vain teenage girls, this trend has become a worldwide phenomenon and is a great way to capture special moments. Of course, if you have one of our Power Banks you have three times as much battery power for taking all these marvellous selfies, but you knew that already. You could also then import all of those onto one of your Memory Mate flash drives, right?! OK, enough shamless plugs.

So, with the craze seemingly at its height, what else can possibly top the Ellen Degeneres Oscars selfie or the First Papal selfie? Astronaut selfies.

Here at Memory Mates we obviously like to keep our fingers on the pulse when it comes to technology and trends, so we were keen to share the incredible astronaut selfies with you to perk up your day! Some of these astronauts were so ahead of their time, they were taking selfies in space before we even had a name for them.

Enjoy!
